What I Offer

Happy Endings

All endings involve loss. Good endings start with careful assessment and realistic goal settings. I will endeavour to examine the experience and the process made in all interactions and to minimize discomfort.

* Discuss the end at the beginning and when appropriate throughout contact.
* Be sure it is the right time to end.
* Read the signs from the client i.e. missing appointments.
* Lengthening times between visits may ease the 'ending' process.
* Let the client know you have valued working with them.
* Recall something you have learnt from them / have made you laugh.
* Make time and space for the ending.
* Think out the actual moment of leaving in advance and act decisive when the time is right.

Herbert (1993) suggests that you should phase out and terminate the intervention with care, because the 'durability' of any improvements may depend upon your successful management of 'endings'.
